UCAS, Personal statements, Oxbridge, private tuition in English

Gayle Wood private tutorUCAS and Personal Statement guidance, Oxbridge advice, private tuition.

Based in the Peak District but also able to offer some tuition in London, I have over 20 years’ experience teaching English Literature and English Language; my pupils consistently achieve As and A*s in their exams. I was recently graded ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted and my lesson was singled out for comment in the report: ‘Outstanding teaching seen was a poetry lesson in Year 11. All students were fully involved and able to build on the prior learning to establish meaning in all aspects. All were fully engaged and showed an impressive understanding of how poetry works.’

I offer:

  • Private tuition for English Literature and Language GCSE, AS and A level
  • Tailored guidance  for Personal Statements and UCAS applications
  • Preparation for Oxbridge application and the ELAT (Oxford)

Private tuition

I have a very wide range of resources and materials from which I create tailor-made lessons for each student.

As well as providing past papers, mark schemes and exam reports I  diagnostically mark all work. In addition, I keep up to date with current thinking in the world of education, specifically English teaching, by attending conferences, courses and training events.

My students regularly achieve or exceed their predicted grades. In June 2013, 19 students out of  my GCSE class of 28  achieved grade A* or A in both Language and Literature. (This was the year GCSE  English results were downgraded) Moreover, 5 students achieved full marks in the summer Literature exam while 4 other students were either 1 or 2 marks below full marks.

In June 2013, 9 students out of my A level class of 15 achieved grade A* or A. Of those students, 6 of them achieved full marks in at least one module.

Eight of my students have gone on to study English at Oxbridge in recent years.

All of my three children went to the local state school and then on to Oxbridge.

In addition, I can offer London-based tuition with a Cambridge Graduate.
